The One Where Daddy Cooks Dinner

When mommy cooks dinner, we have a semi-balanced dinner.  Tonight for instance, we had rosemary ranch chicken, baby carrots and ranch dressing, sliced tomatoes, and at the request of my 5 year old, macaroni and cheese. Nothing fancy by any means, but a variety.

What happens when daddy cooks dinner?  Well, the kids certainly enjoy it!  I get a break, and I get to take pictures of the kids joining in.  Most of the time, my  hands are messy and busy helping them, so I don't often take pictures of them helping in the kitchen.

First on daddy's list, making pepperoni rolls for dinner.

Preparing the dough!

One, two...

...the whole package!

Elliott had a little more self-control with the pepperoni than his little brother.

Then on to the Gingerbread Houses!  Now, I did have to help with these, because of all the icing.  We used kits, but our kids didn't care.  I might try my hand at making them next year.  Maybe.  I doubt it.

Can you tell which house belongs to Elliott (5) and Emory (2)?

Elliott's is on the left.  He wanted to use every drop of icing, and the icing dripping down the sides is snow and icicles.

Emory on the other hand, didn't care about anything except throwing the candy.  He didn't want any icing on his house, and insisted his candy would stick without it.  But he still talks about "building my house" so he did enjoy it!

  2. I love when Daddy cooks!
Your gingerbread houses are soooo cute! My 2 year old only wanted to eat his candy, so not much made it to the house, but they did have fun making them!

  3. I just had to read the post in which Daddy cooks dinner! Looks like you had a great time. On our holiday to-do list I'm going to make graham cracker "gingerbread" houses with my kids... although I think my 2-year-old's would have more icing because he'd want to keep piping it! We'll see how it goes...
