Seasonal Tree Painting

Recently Elliott and I were doing a color mixing activity to accompany our Freedom Summer reading as part of a Martin Luther King, Jr lesson.  When we were finished, he wanted another piece of paper, but I wasn't quite sure where he was going with it.  He had only "scribbled" some brown paint onto his paper before he decided he was painting a tree, so he needed green paint.  I didn't have any green, so we went back to color mixing until he got the shade he wanted.

He started with just one tree.

Then he came back and decided it needed something more.  He said there was a summer tree, a fall tree and a winter tree.  I'm sure you can figure out which ones are which!

It was interesting to see how he's made observations on the seasons and trees over the last several months and brought that into his creative work.  We aren't doing formal nature study yet, but seeing this definitely makes me think we can start by the spring.

  5. That is so cool that he knew the differences in the seasons. I think that is a harder one for most kids to learn since the concept of a season is such a long time. Great work!
