Pre-K: Schooling While Sick

This week was thrown off quite a bit, as both kids, and Elliott in particular, were hit by a virus.  He still asked for school though, so we managed to get in a few activities.

Language Arts
Boggle, Jr. has fit nicely into our vowel review.

I like that we can start with the word hidden, but then Elliott can check his work on his own!

After he finished playing Boggle, he sat down with Emory, who was being distracted occupied with UpWords, and showed him how to spell his name.

Literature
We started reading Stuart Little by E.B. White.  It's been awhile since we've had an on-going read-aloud, and I'm excited to start back up.  He seems to like it so far, and as asked for it on his own.

Poetry
In my Queen of Hearts post, I talked about how I planned to surprise the boys with these Heart Tarts while we read The Queen of Hearts (which is listed as The Tarts in our book).  It was a big hit!  Elliott really enjoyed it!

Math and Art
I knew deep down that the Kindergarten math book I ordered was too easy (after receiving it, that is) but I told myself we would at least use it for review, because what can a review hurt, right?  I think I made him miserable in the 5 minutes it took us to complete the entire first unit.  I saved one lesson for a "game" and "art" and this was his half-hearted attempt to please me.

I talked more about the lesson and the struggle with the decision I have to make on our math program in Math, Art and Time to Move On.

Math:  Geoboards
Elliott has been messing around with rubber bands lately, so it was the perfect time to introduce a geoboard!

Outdoor Play
Daddy was off on Tuesday, and Elliott was determined we were playing the Cootie game, so daddy and I suffered through a round (I don't know what it is about that game, but it is one of my least favorite preschool games ever) before we spent some time OUTSIDE enjoying the unusually warm winter weather!  We had a couple of nice play days outside, and it really brightened up our week!
must break the stick
must break it again!

Science
We had a really fun time learning about the heart in our Hear Your Heart lesson....

...listening to hearts...

...and we had a great time playing Vet Clinic!

Just Because...
...I can't resist these sweet pictures with daddy reading before bed!

...and because he's cute...

...and because this picture makes me realize my little baby is growing up into a handsome little boy.

  1. I meant to comment on your other post that I really love that your boys are wearing costumes. It reminds me of my little guys.

    1. Yes, my little one insists on dressing like big brother whenever he can. I don't buy a lot of their clothes to match but they have a lot of matching pajamas and costumes.

  2. I don't know of any kid that asks to have school while they are sick. That's amazing! I am going to have to look for that Boggle Jr game. We could use that.

    1. He's really into "school" right now for some reason, though we're only informally homeschooling through kind of a Pre-K year. One sick day he wanted to do school, the other he didn't start moving until 2:00 in the afternoon, and that's when we headed outdoors for FRESH AIR!

Before I found Boggle Jr, we used UpWords tiles and index cards for the same purpose before that.

    1. Awesome! I'm glad so many other families love it. I just got it a few days prior for $2 at a thrift store, so this was our first time playing around with it. We haven't actually played by the rules yet.

      Thanks for stopping by!
