Disciplines of a Godly Young Man

"Point blank, this is a punchy, no-holds-barred book for young men.  Laying out the challenge to be disciplined, godly, and sold-out for Jesus, the authors talk about purity in your thought-life, cultural pressure, and perseverance as a Christian.  Let father and son Kent and Carey Hughes help you live a life of integrity and become the man God is calling you to be."  --From the Back Cover

Disciplines of a Godly Young Man

This book is written by father and son team R. Kent Hughes and W. Carey Hughes.  The book starts out with a discussion of success.  Success must start with discipline.  You will never get anywhere in sports or music or academics without the discipline to practice, to try again, to work hard.  Discipline yourself to be the best you can.  Then they point out the obvious.  Spiritual matters are the same.  Discipline is not an option.  It's mandatory.  It's hard work.  The authors give solid advice, and biblical background for their words.

It touches on just about every subject that young men (and women) struggle with.  Purity, friendship, devotion, prayer, gossip, perseverance, witnessing, ministry and more.  At the end of each chapter is a Food For Thought section with thought-provoking questions to explore.

This book is much above my children's ages; it is most appropriate for teens and young adults.  However, it would be a great gift for young men of all ages, particularly those starting high school, or even college.  It would also be good for a young men's group study.

I received a complimentary copy of this book through Crossway Publishing in exchange for my honest review.
