Prize of My Heart

Prize of My Heart, Lisa Norato, 978-0-7642-0942-0

Prize of my Heart is about Brogan Talvis, a captain and privateer, who, following the war of 1812, begins the quest to bring home his young son that his wife abandoned.  During his search, he realizes that his son has been in good care with a wealthy shipbuilder.  Brogan also quickly realizes that the man's daughter, the beautiful and mysterious Lorena Huntley, is the ticket to developing a relationship with the boy who thinks his papa was lost at sea.

I have mixed feelings about this book.  Lisa Norato did a great job with creating the setting and making you feel like you know your way around a ship.  I thought Brogan's character was well developed, but I found Lorena to be shallow at times.  There was no background information to help you connect with her, other than her big secret.  I also felt like their feelings just happened.  There was no steady development to their relationship.

I found the book to be a typical Christian historical romance novel, in that there are a few plot twists you may not expect, but the ending is fairly predictable.  If you like the genre, you probably won't be disappointed with the book.

**I was given a complimentary copy of this book by Bethany House Publishing in exchange for an honest review.
