Random 5 on Friday ~ October 4th, 2013

1.  Tomorrow, October 5th, is Do Something Nice Day.  So make sure to do something nice for someone.  Anonymously.  It will be your birthday present to me.

2.  We got a call from the grandparents today, and there was a new addition to their farm overnight!  The boys were excited, and were eager to meet the new foal.  They're already throwing out names, though I told them mawmaw will get the final say.  It's not our animal.

3.  School went really well this week.  We started reading James Heriot's Treasury for Children (Ambleside Online Year 1 science) and both boys really liked it.  Goes along well with our farm nature study, ya think?  We're also still reading the original Winnie-the-Pooh.  Emory has been drawing like crazy.  Elliott is doing Reading Eggs on his own, and really likes the section that allows him to write his own stories.  I got several books in the mail this week to review, some of which will make for a fun geography study.  I also got a book for myself!

4.  Eleanor has started pulling up to her feet already!  Pfft!  It just seems so soon.  She's also eating finger foods, and finally starting to sleep more.  Still not sleeping through the night, but she's not waking up right.at.midnight.every.single.night anymore either.

5.  We went to my mother-in-law's fall cookout/hayride this past weekend.  The boys loved the hayride.

Eleanor didn't like the the hayride that well at first, but then she fell asleep.  She was quite the happy baby after her nap though!

  1. We have read the James Heriot's Treasury for Children - All of them loved it even the oldest! Winnie the Pooh is one of our favorites too! We hang out a lot on the Ambleside website... I found it was taking a really LONG time so now we mix it up a little. I had one doing ready to start year 4 and one year 7.

    1. We are doing AO Year 1 and Year 0. I'm not following it to the letter though, just pulling what works well for us.

  2. I think my little girl has that same yellow outfit! :)

Okay, this is going to sound really stupid...Are you saying "Winnie The Pooh" is a novel?

    1. Well, each chapter in Winnie The Pooh is self-contained, so it's more like a collection of short stories, but yes. There are two books by AA Milne...Winnie-The-Pooh and The House at Pooh Corner. There are also two collections of poetry that we plan to read this year...When We Were Very Young and Now We Are Six.
