Blocks and Bar Graphs

I found this little 18 count of blocks in the $1 section at Target.  I picked them up, because I figured Emory could play with them when Elliott was asking to do school.  They are similar to the giant foam dice, so I figured they would be a good substitute.  Elliott wanted to try them out though, so I turned them into a quick math activity, and Emory played with the dice instead.

He stacked them by color and we used comparison words to discuss which colors had the most, the least, etc.

Then I gave him a very basic, unlabeled graph (I just used the table function on Word to make something quickly) so he could make a simple bar graph.  He wasn't interested in coloring in the blocks, but he still understood the concept by outlining them.

While Elliott was busy graphing, Emory was stacking and drawing.

Now, I'm wishing I had picked up two sets of those blocks because we could probably do more math activities with them.
