52 Lists: Life's Trials that made me Better

It's been a crazy week.  I haven't done any blogging or blog-reading because I had a surprise visit (husband was in on it) from my sister and mom.  So we've been visiting, chatting, shopping and '"vacationing" in the area--since everything is still new to my family after our recent move, I learned a lot about the area in one week!

Needless to say, to come back to see the challenge "Life's Trials That Made Me Better" was a little depressing.  Some trials are a little too personal to share with the world, but some are universal and understood by everyone.  To decide which ones to share, and which ones truly made me better, or just changed me, definitely makes this one of the most difficult lists.

Losing my Dad & Stepmom - I lost my dad suddenly when I was a young mom, and my stepmom shortly after my fourth child was born.  I don't know about better, but dealing with grief has a way of making you stronger.

Postpartum Depression - Hindsight is 20/20 and there were things that could have been done differently, but more than anything I know I can get through it and hopefully help other moms recognize the symptoms.

Marital Ups and Downs - I am blessed with a healthy marriage, but having children, moving, changing jobs and life in general can strain one person.  Two people struggling to adjust to a new family dynamic learn to trust each other more and pray more--making themselves and their relationship stronger.

Watching Family Make Mistakes - When you watch someone you love shut people out, destroy relationships, go down the wrong path, struggle to grow up . . . it's heart-wrenching.  When all you can do is pray, certainly that makes a person grow closer to God and love others more.

Homeschooling - It's not a trial in the same sense as the others, but I do think it's test.  It's hard.  There are days that I want to throw in the towel, but honestly, when we persevere and reap the benefits, it makes every difficult moment worth it.

  1. I'm so sorry that you found this list to be depressing. I was hoping to spark the concept that "trials are often blessings in disguise" -- a quote I just read on another link-up, but truly captured the goal of this deeper list.

I hope that you continue to enjoy your surprise visitors! It sounds like a time of special memories in the making.

    1. Well, maybe depressing wasn't the right word. It was just a little hard to come back from such an exciting week and have to think about some of the hardest things we've gone through. I definitely agree that out of our trials come life lessons and blessings, though.

  2. Brittney, sending love and prayers..

  3. PPD was also on my list, as was homeschooling. Glad your mom and sister were able to visit!

  4. Visiting via the 52 lists link up.

May the Lord use your trials to minister to those who need to be comforted and that have been through similar things!
